Ambleside Park

Ambleside ParkAmbleside is perfect on a summers day - hit the beach, stretch out on a towel, take a dip or just check out the people. A great place to spot cruise ships in the summer mornings and evenings. Things get busy, so get there early!

Ambleside is West Vancouver’s biggest and most popular beach space - stretching a few hundred meters along the entrance to Burrard Inlet. The views are great - watch the ships coming and going out of the harbour, you have a view of Lion’s Gate Bridge, you can see Stanley Park across the water and most of English Bay.

Ambleside gets the sun most of the day, so you can come early or late or stay all day. The swimming is good in summer - it is shallow enough for kids and deep enough for a good swim a bit further out. There is plenty of space on the beach when the tide is out, but things get cramped otherwise. You can check the tide tables before you go.

There is a good amount of parking, and the bus is also an option (they will drop you off a 5 minute walk away on Marine Drive). There are a few picnic benches and shady spaces close to the beach - always popular for picnicking. Bring your portable BBQ in summer. There is also a concession in the warmer months.

If you aren’t into beaching, then there is plenty more to do. You can chill out on the grassy space, throw a Frisbee, kick a ball, bat a ball, fly a kite and much more. There is also a basketball court and skateboarding park for kids. Strolling through Ambleside and then connecting with the West Vancouver seawall is very popular at all times of the year - in fact half of West Vancouver can be found on the seawall several times a year (yes, it gets busy on stat holidays).

If you want to bring the dog, “Doggy Disney” is at the East end of Ambleside. You can let Fluffy run and swim free with all the other four legged beauties!
