Prospect Point
A must visit landmark in Stanley Park that can boast some of the best views of the North Shore mountains, the Lion's Gate Bridge and the Burrard Inlet.
Prospect Point is located at the northern most tip of Stanley Park. The observation platform overlooks the narrow gateway into the Port of Vancouver and Burrard Inlet, and gives you a great view of the huge ships coming and going all year round - you will almost feel like you can reach out and touch them. Be there at 6am to see the cruise ships coming in or 6pm to see the cruise ships leaving. You will also get a great view of the mountains to the north - Cypress Mountain and Grouse Mountain. On a clear winter day after some snowfall, this is a nice place to snap some photos of the snow capped mountains. Lion’s Gate Bridge is right next door and you can snap a good photo of the bridge on a good day. Try it at night if you want to catch the bridge and traffic lights. The tides come and go every day. Check the tide tables to see when they are the biggest and then watch the wild water moving in or out of the Burrard Inlet - it can get pretty rough at times and you can probably watch some boats brave the waters. You can get to Prospect Point by car, bike or on foot. You can probably do in-line skates too if you are good on hills. There is plenty of paid parking. If you are on bike or foot, then you will want to cut up from the Stanley Park seawall - so watch for the sign that directs you.
